MY LIFE
Sue SorensenSue Sorensen - Classic... ..........
My Life since 1966: The years have gone by so quickly it seems. I enjoy reading all of the bios. Ask Karen Larson about the days of riding in her black Rambler down Main Street with me steering from the front passenger seat while she put her driver's seat down, appearing as if no-one was driving.. amazing we survived our many antics along with Mary Jane. In 1968 I met & married my true love from Brooklyn, NY 'Jim" (Vinny), after an introduction from my dear friend,Karen. A long story she can tell you about in person.  I graduated from nursing school..Jim & I were then married. We will celebrate our 38th. anniv. this month. I worked as a family practice nurse, then labor & delivery. What an honor & thrill to be there when both of Karen's grandchildren were born. Not a dry eye in the house!! We lived in Sioux Falls until Oct. 2005. Our 2 daughters & families live in WA so we decided life is too short & moved here to the Seattle area, too. We can see Mt. Rainier from our backyard..absolutely breathtaking. (We don't miss that SD weather.) Jim retired Oct. 2005 after 36 years with The City of Sioux Falls. In 1992 I was in a car accident so my nursing career ended. My love for babies will never end so we became foster parents in 1993 for the State of SD & have loved & cared for well over 60 infants in our home. Whenever a foster baby would leave us, a piece of our heart went with them. We adopted a baby boy who is now 10 years old..yup, that's right,I'm 57 & he's 10! He does not keep us young, just very focused. He has Asperger's Syndrome(or as they tell me,the Bill Gates/Einstein Syndrome)along with ADHD. Never a dull moment around our house.(I would love to hear from any of you who are familiar with Asperger's!) We cherish every moment with our kids. We have such wonderful daughters & sons-in-law & of course, the most precious, bright & beautiful grandchildren ever!
Our decision to move near our children was also influenced by my dear cousin,Dan Christopherson(aka the voice of the Sioux Falls Canaries). His daughter, Megan Christopherson Hoisington, was tragically killed in a head-on collison in July 2005, which made national news. This was less than 3 days after her wedding. A very sad time for all of us but especially for Dan, Dawn & Megan's new husband, Zach. Cousin Danny was adamant that we move out here to be with our girls & not give it a second thought. We packed up & headed west. Shortly before we left SD we were honored to be awarded 'Angels In Adoption' for the State of South Dakota & who should give us our award but our famous Sen.Tim Johnson! He's just as kind as he was back at VHS. Being a foster parent in SD was very rewarding & we do miss this part of our life. We are thankful for the time we had with each & every foster baby & we'll never forget any of them.
My cousin, Jim Sorensen, also lives out here. You may all remember him as our band director at VHS. He & his wife are very dear people.
Greetings to all of you & keep 'Lars' & 'Carlin' in line. Have a great reunion & I look fwd. to seeing pictures.
